Unfollow Inactive Twitter Accounts
Why Unfollow Inactive Twitter Accounts?
An account that hasn't posted in six months adds nothing to your feed. It still takes up a spot in your following count, though.
Unfollow it and that spot goes to active accounts posting about what you care about, so your feed fills up with fresh tweets and current trends again. Your ratio gets better too. A following count padded with silent accounts throws your follower-to-following ratio out of proportion, and that's a number brands and influencers check before they work with you.
Call it spring cleaning for the accounts you follow.
How the 2-Month and 6-Month Inactive Filters Work
Open Manage > Sort Accounts You Follow and switch on one of two toggles: Inactive accounts - not posted in 2 months, or not posted in 6 months. Inactive means no posts. Any account you follow that hasn't tweeted in that window makes the list.
- Most people start with 6 months. Two months is the stricter cut, for a following list you want kept tight.
- Stack it: add Accounts not following you to see the quiet accounts that don't follow you back either, or Accounts following you for the quiet ones that still do.
- Under Show more, narrow it again: a keyword in their bio, a follower-count range, the period when you followed them, whether they're in one of your lists, and whether you followed them from a Twitter account search.
- Every card shows a Last Seen date, the day of that account's last post, plus its handle, follower and following counts, location, bio, and whether it follows you.
- The list tells you how many accounts matched, and you can sort it or export it.
Unfollow, and Keep the Accounts That Matter
Click Unfollow on a card and that account leaves your following list. No trip to its profile, no hunting for the button on x.com.
It's one account at a time, so every unfollow is a choice you made. We recommend keeping it under 400 unfollows a day, so X's automated spam detection has no reason to look at your account.
Some accounts you'll keep however quiet they get: an old colleague, a brand you love, a friend on a break. Put them on your whitelist and switch on Hide Whitelisted Accounts, and they never show up here, so you can't unfollow one by accident. Not sure about someone? History shows your follow and unfollow history with that account.
Looking for Inactive Followers?
Different list, different tool. Inactive followers are accounts that follow you, and you may not follow them back, so they won't show up in Sort Accounts You Follow.
To find them, filter your Twitter followers in the Sort Followers tool by Last Active: pick a date and you'll see every follower who hasn't posted since. Sort Followers is on the Grow plan as well.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a free tool to unfollow inactive Twitter accounts?
- Fedica's inactive filters in Sort Accounts You Follow are part of the Grow plan, so they aren't included on the Free plan.
How does Fedica decide an account is inactive?
- By its posts. An account counts as inactive when it hasn't posted in the 2 or 6 months you picked, and the Last Seen date on its card is the day of its last post.
Can I unfollow inactive accounts in bulk?
- No. You unfollow one account at a time, with the Unfollow button on its card.
Where do I find active accounts to follow instead?
- Try Fedica's Twitter account search and set the last-activity filter. Pick a date, and only accounts that have been active since then make the list. The date has to be at least 3 weeks back. Add bio keywords and a location, and you get people in your niche who actually post.
What about the people who unfollowed me?
- That's a different list, and Fedica's Twitter unfollower tracker shows who unfollowed you and when.
