Note: The verification process outlined was the process as of this article’s publishing. This may or may not be completely accurate with the introduction of X (Twitter) Blue.
If you are an X (formerly Twitter) user, then it is no doubt that you are familiar with the blue check mark associated with some accounts. The need for this symbol on X profiles has become a sense of celeb status as users struggle for the badge of approval. Although the purpose of verification was originally meant for account authentication, it has now turned into a status game for some. However, the tool effectively helps to build credibility online and allows users to have a trustworthy presence on X.
While X took a time out on its verification tool for a bit, it has now rebooted this season for users to apply! The platform has had some issues along the way, causing them to shut down verifications more than once in order to make the proper improvements needed. One of these improvements is the ability to apply to become verified in order to receive the prominent blue check. The ability to request verification has not been available since 2017, so users are now eager than ever to send in their applications!
The X verification process is now available as a self-serving process within the app. To apply, you need to have an up-to-date profile of all your current information, valid phone number and email address, then fill out a request form. As well, your tweets must be seen a “public” to be considered. Click here to visit the form!
So, who is actually eligible you may ask?
In X’s new updates about verified accounts, they listed some elements which one must reach in order to be considered. One of the major ones is that your profile must. Be of “public interest” that would include some of the following:
- Government
- Companies, brands and organizations
- News organizations and journalists
- Entertainment
- Sports and gaming
- Activists, organizers, and other influential individuals
While meeting these criteria’s does not necessarily guarantee you a blue checkmark, it is worth a shot trying and if you do not hear back within 30 days, you can reapply! Make sure to check out the official verification help centre to confirm your specifics.
