How to Track Link Clicks on Bluesky & Mastodon

Ever post something on Bluesky and think, “Does anyone actually click this stuff?” Same. Tracking Mastodon or Bluesky link clicks shouldn’t make your head spin.

Fedica makes tracking Bluesky link clicks simple. Here’s exactly how you do it.

Table of Contents

You can track and shorten URLs from the Publishing section.

If you wanted to set your link shortener and tracking for all your posts, use the Shorten Links tool in the Publishing section.

If you just wanted to set link shortening and tracking for a specific topic, move onto the next section below. That’s done by editing your Pipeline Content Queues!

Specify your tracking parameters, then any post will share them, unless you choose to edit them per pipeline.

Next, how to specify tracking tags separated by content topics using Pipelines…

Using Pipelines in Fedica:

Step 1: Go to Publishing > Pipelines

Log into your Fedica dashboard and head to the Publishing tab. Then click into Pipelines.

Step 2: Choose or create a Pipeline

You can pick an existing pipeline or create a new one. Pipelines are useful for organizing content by theme, platform, or schedule. Like “30-day threads,” “Meme of the Day,” or even timezone-specific posts.

Step 3: Scroll to Automatic URL Tracking

Inside your chosen pipeline, scroll down to the section called Automatic URL Tracking and Shorten Links.

Step 4: Enable tracking

Toggle the tracking on. Once enabled, Fedica will automatically add tracking codes to any link in that pipeline, select a shortener, like Fedica’s or Bitly’s for click tracking in your website analytics!

Next, here’s how to customize your link tracking

You can personalize your UTM settings from the default:

utm_source=[socialnetwork]&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fedica-[pipeline]

NOTE: In fedica, if you leave brackets “[]” around the keywords [socialnetwork] or [pipeline], then we will dynamically save your stats with the social media platform it came from and what pipeline it was scheduled to. If not, specify it without brackets depending on what keywords you track in your website analytics.

For example:

  • Use utm_source to specify the platform (like “bluesky” or “mastodon”).
    • Example: utm_source=bluesky
  • Use utm_campaign to reflect the pipeline name or campaign theme.
    • Example: utm_campaign=fedica-[pipeline]
  • Keep utm_medium set as “social” to keep reporting clean in tools like Google Analytics.
    • Example: utm_medium=social

The links in your social post will include:
www.link.com/page/?utm_source=[socialnetwork]&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fedica-[pipeline]

See “Shorten Links” and “Automatic URL Tracking” in Fedica’s Pipeline settings. If you want to hide the tracking details in your links, use Fedica’s shortener!

Next, post as usual

Every post scheduled in that pipeline will now include tracking links.

Then, monitor your clicks

View performance right in your Fedica dashboard, or head over to your web analytics platform to see exactly what traffic came from which pipeline, campaign topic, or social platform specified above.

This setup makes it easy to track which posts drive traffic and which strategies actually perform, without touching a spreadsheet.

  1. Log into Fedica.
  2. Write your Bluesky post like you normally would.
  3. Pop your link in the post.
  4. Make sure to schedule it to a Pipeline with URL tracking and shortening enabled.
  5. Hit post – that’s it.

Now when people click your links, you’ll actually see it in your Bluesky analytics and website analytics. No complicated setups. Just clarity.

One user said this is the tool that made their content strategy. It helped them connect posts to real page views on their website, so they knew which ideas were pulling people deeper into their solutions.

It’s the same process:

  1. Log into Fedica.
  2. Write your Mastodon post.
  3. Use the link shortener and set up URL tracking.
  4. Post it in a Pipeline.

Clicks go straight to your Mastodon analytics dashboard and website analytics. Done.

Why Bother Tracking Clicks?

Because you’re already doing the work. Why fly blind?

If you’re posting without tracking, you’re guessing. When you track clicks, you stop wondering what people care about, and start seeing it. Which post got clicks? What topic made someone visit your store or read your blog?

Instantly See What’s Working in Your Content Queue

Let’s say you’ve got three content queues in Fedica:
→ Behind-the-scenes posts
→ Product drops
→ Community stories

Now you’ll know which queue actually gets clicks to your site. Maybe your “stories” queue drives 80% of the traffic. Cool, do more of that.

Connect Clicks to Campaigns Without Extra Tools

No more opening six tabs or building Frankenstein spreadsheets. When you use Fedica’s link shortener, those clicks are tied to the post and the campaign right inside your dashboard.

That’s how one creator started mapping what content led people into their mentorship funnel, step by step, post by post.

Save Time (and Sanity) on Reporting

This is post analytics for Twitter, for example, but click analytics will show tracking details in Google Analytics or other website analytics platforms you’re using.

Fedica breaks down link data in a way that’s easy to read and quick to act on. No extra tools. No overthinking.

You’ll start spotting patterns fast. That’s a huge win if you’re running a one-person show.

Why Use a URL Shortener on Social Media?

Sure, it looks cleaner. But more than that, it connects your post to your site’s traffic, which means the bottom line.

Google analytics social media link tracking from social media scheduling tools

→ See which posts drive people to your site
→ Know what your community explores beyond social
→ Build content that meets them where they already are

This is the bridge between your ideas and your outcomes. Whether you’re building an art practice, a newsletter list, a product funnel, or a whole movement—it helps to know what’s working.

Try tracking Bluesky and Mastodon link clicks with Fedica. You’re already posting. Let the clicks tell you what’s next.

How to track social media traffic?

You can track social media traffic by using UTM tracking codes on your shared links, which lets you see how much traffic is coming from each social channel in your analytics platform. Most platforms also offer basic analytics that show how many clicks your posts get.

With Fedica, tracking is much simpler. You can see exactly which posts drive traffic to your site, broken down by topic or campaign. It even filters by click counts and shows performance across your entire content queue.

What is the best social media analytics tool?

The best tool depends on what you need. Some people like big dashboards with cross-platform data, while others want something that’s quick and easy to read.

Fedica gives you a clean dashboard that filters by engagement, reach, and clicks. It’s especially handy if you’re using X (Twitter), Mastodon, or Threads. You can even dig into demographic data without leaving your post queue.

How do I run social media analytics?

You can use built-in platform tools or third-party apps to track engagement, reach, clicks, and more. These tools usually let you export reports or view trends across time.

Fedica makes this easier by letting you sort posts by performance and filter by campaign, time frame, or topic. It’s like having a social media spreadsheet already filled in—minus the manual work.

What is the best social media listening tool?

Listening tools track keywords, mentions, and topics that matter to your audience. Tools like Fedica do this at a high level. Fedica gives you a way to filter your past posts by topic or keyword and see what consistently gets clicks or attention. It’s great for picking up on which themes resonate with your followers.

How do you track social media reach?

Reach is how many people saw your post. You’ll find this in native platform analytics like Facebook Insights or more details on Fedica’s X / Twitter Analytics.

Fedica tracks reach too—and lets you compare posts side by side. That way, you can tell if it was the image, the caption, or the timing that made the difference.

How do I monitor social media data?

You can monitor data by setting up regular check-ins on your analytics tools, creating reports, and comparing trends over time.

Fedica’s dashboard helps you stay on top of performance without drowning in data. You can filter by what matters most: campaign, time range, topic, or even audience segment.

What is the difference between click through rate and engagement rate?

Click through rate (CTR) shows how many people clicked on your link out of those who saw the post. Engagement rate looks at likes, comments, shares, and other interactions compared to views.

With Fedica, you can view both side by side for every post. It helps you decide whether to post more content that gets clicks, or content that sparks conversation.

What is social media tracking?

Social media tracking is keeping an eye on how your posts perform over time. You’re looking at metrics like reach, engagement, traffic, and growth.

Fedica handles this automatically. It logs historical data and shows patterns over time, so you can tell what’s improving and what needs attention.

How do you measure social media success?

You measure success by choosing the right metrics for your goals—clicks if you’re driving traffic, engagement if you’re building community, conversions if you’re selling something.

Fedica helps you spot your wins by surfacing your top-performing posts and highlighting what made them work. That way, you can repeat what works without guessing.
